James De Brular, ‘22, tenor trombone

Hometown: born in Arlington, VA but grew up in Fairfax, VA

Major: Music Education

Musical Aspirations: I'd like to be able to play the William Tell Storm Scene excerpt at an acceptable level. If I can work it up to tempo, I will never lack confidence in my trombone playing. For a couple larger goals, I'd like to be a band director and travel with that band, write a piece for a large ensemble, create more arrangements, and the list goes on!

When not playing trombone, I like outdoor activities like hiking, rock climbing, and canoeing/kayaking. I play video games as well, but those occurrences are rare nowadays!

Major: Music Education

Musical aspirations: I would love to become a studio musician and record for music and video games and movies! Or become a band director that inspires the next generation of people to keep playing!

In my spare time, I like to listen to video game soundtracks and play video games!

Musical aspirations: To continue to perform, tour, and teach and share the love of music with others around the world.

When not playing trombone, I love spending time with my wife and 2 kids and I am especially fond of the outdoors, national parks, and hiking/mountain climbing.

Musical Aspirations: I would like to play in local orchestras or bands and also pit orchestras as those are very fun

Major: Music Education

Musical aspirations: I want to help students create meaningful music. Personally, I want to be comfortable within my sound and not apologetic about it.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking and exploring other forms of art, such as poetry. I also think exploring/ walking with no set destination is extremely fun.

Musical aspirations: I wish to be a high school or college professor with my own music program. I have always wanted to inspire my future students to not only love music but to be passionate about something that they love as my own teachers did for me.

When I’m not playing bass trombone, I teach marching band. I run the visual program at James Madison high school and teach visual at GMU’s indoor drumline.

Vicki Walker, ‘23, tenor trombone

Hometown: Originally from Mississippi, born in Germany, lives in Prince William County 

Major: PhD Music Education

Musical aspirations: My goal is to make a career switch from elementary music teacher to college music professor. I would also like to become a more skilled trombonist and do more composing and performing.

When not playing trombone in my church band, I enjoy watching movies and dining with my husband, children, and grandbaby. I also love entertaining and hosting dinner parties for friends, decorating, and shopping.
